Dr. Shannon McCall is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Pathology and Surgery at Duke University School of Medicine. She serves as Vice-chair for Translational Research in the Department of Pathology. She is board-certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Clinical Informatics. She has a research subspecialty in upper gastrointestinal tract carcinogenesis and previously served on the analysis working group for gastric carcinoma at The Cancer Genome Atlas. She has authored over 130 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. McCall is a co-creator of the Frameshift Molecular Registry of Tumors (Frameshift MRT) software system used in support of Precision Cancer Medicine at the Duke Cancer Institute. She serves as the principal investigator for Duke University's data sharing in the American Association for Cancer Research's Genomics Evidence Neoplasia Information Exchange “GENIE“ project. She co-leads the Precision Cancer Medicine & Investigational Therapeutics Research Program of the Duke Cancer Institute.
Dr. McCall is a thought leader in best practices for biorepositories and bioresources. She has been part of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Biorepository Accreditation Program for ten years, serving as Chair of the CAP's Biorepository Accreditation Program Committee for four years and currently serving as an advisor. She was a contributor to the 4th edition of the ISBER Best Practices: Recommendations for Repositories and served on the ISBER Standards Committee for 5 years, currently serving as an advisor. At Duke University, she has directed the BioRepository & Precision Pathology Center for over 12 years and serves as the principal investigator for the United States National Cancer Institute's Cooperative Human Tissue Network Southern Division.
