Dr. Christopher Moskaluk received a B.S. in Microbiology, summa cum laude, from the University of Illinois and a M.D. and a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from Duke University. He then completed a residency training program in Anatomic Pathology at the intramural clinical program of the National Institutes of Health, followed by a fellowship training program in diagnostic gastrointestinal pathology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he also performed post-doctoral research into the genetic basis of human pancreatic cancer.

He joined The University of Virginia School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in 1996, where he has participated in the general Surgical Pathology diagnostic service, has led a research laboratory with consistent extramural research funding and has risen to the rank of tenured Professor. His interests include the use of genomic and proteomic techniques to identify the molecular basis of cancer, to identify potential therapeutic targets and to identify novel biomarkers of cancer and other human diseases. He has authored or co-authored 196 peer-reviewed publications and serves on the editorial board of several journals that deal with diagnosis and investigation in the field of Pathology. He also heads research biorepository efforts on the local and national levels including being the P.I. of the Mid-Atlantic Division of the Cooperative Human Tissue Network (NIH funded), the Lung Cancer Biospecimen Resource Network (DoD funded) and the UVA branch of the Oncology Research Information Exchange Network, a national network of cancer centers that recruit oncology patients for biospecimen research and clinical trials. He oversees the Cancer Moonshot Program's participant recruitment and biorepository efforts at UVA (DoD subcontract). He has been awarded the David Harrison Distinguished Teaching Professorship for his teaching and research efforts at UVA. He serves on the Senior Leadership Council of the UVA NCI-designated Cancer Center and is Chair of the Executive Committee and the Board of the Piedmont Liability Trust.

In 2012 he assumed the Chair position of the UVA Department of Pathology, with oversight of approximately 40 clinical and research faculty members. He is also the overall Medical Director of the Medical Laboratories of the UVA Hospital, responsible for the oversight of over 300 technical staff providing diagnostic laboratory services.
